The Cautionary Use of the Concept of Experience
Abstract
My proposal of a “cautionary” concept of experience falls within the actual debate on analytic pragmatism. I would underscore the importance to redefine a normative concept of experience along the line of some interesting descriptions of the notion of “space of reasons” introduced by Wilfrid Sellars. The latest version of this notion has been presented by Robert Brandom. It gets its plausibility from its social hence discursive nature. Nevertheless I challenge the abandon of the notion of experience, Brandom invokes, which I find rather unavoidable once we intend it in a normative and cautionary sense.
